My journey in photography commenced whilst at school. Family members were soon unable to access the bathroom as I came to grips with black and white film development and printing. Much to their relief my career and life events led to a temporary hiatus in my pursuit of photography.
In 1981, my wife and I joined the Edmonton Camera Club, where we remained for 43 years, serving as Competition Secretaries for 31 years. We revelled in developing our photographic skills, reading extensively, learning from visiting speakers and visiting workshops. There was no genre of photography that we did not at least experiment with. We enjoyed the excitement of competitions, and both gained distinctions from the RPS. After retirement, searching for other outlets we submitted entries to both national and international exhibitions / salons. Our work has been exhibited in over ninety countries worldwide and led to our being awarded distinctions from the International Federation of Photographic Art.
For many years, I served as a judge, visiting other clubs to critique and evaluate their members’ work in competitions and exhibitions. Judging enabled me to ‘give something back’ to the hobby from which I have derived so much enjoyment.
In 2024, we relocated and joined Potters Bar Photographic Society, where we have received a warm welcome. We have enjoyed competing in this new arena of talented photographers and look forward to forging new friendships.
