Creativity

27 October 2025

A return visit from Robert Snary tonight had us painting with light.

Going against the trend of photographing on bright, sunny, days here we had the meeting room in total darkness and Robert provided some light wands (long, thin strips with coloured lights attached).  With camera shutters kept open for many seconds, the wands are moved in front and the individual lights leave traces across the camera’s sensor.

More sophisticated  wands are pre-programmed to make pictures as they are moved in front of the camera.

The great thing with light painting is that is impossible to really predict what the resulting picture will look like, so there is an element of surprise as well as experimentation.

Sample pictures are shown here.

Thank you Robert for an fascinating evening.
