2024’s winning prints

26 November 2024

Our Prints of the Year are now known.

On Monday 25th November we completed 2024’s print competition with the “Print of the Year” evening.

Before the competition started, we greeted Robert Snary from Enfield Camera Club. While a welcome visitor he was not with us to compete.  Robert was there to make a presentation to Tony Mead. Tony is now an ex-member of Enfield but was a stalwart of the Club for many years and Robert presented him with a tankard and a card from Club members to thank him for his efforts over the years.

Then over to independent judge, Lloyd Moore DPAGB, BPE5*, EFIAP who had 63 prints to review split across our two Classes. Any pictures that had scored 19 or 20 throughout the year were eligible for a second “look” this evening.

The General Class was first. Despite all the prints in competition having scored highly during the heats, Lloyd still found opportunities that might lead to improvements. Six pictures were “held back” for a final review. Two received a Commended result, one Highly Commended and then came third, second and first places. All three going to Terry Day!

Next-up was the Advanced Class. With about three times the number of prints over the General Class our judge had his work cut out. Because Lloyd was selecting from the best of the best he had to be very selective (nit-picking?) in his decisions but despite that he held back 11 prints saying that “I shouldn’t be holding so many back, but they are good”. His principal criterion was that if the picture was “not exceptional” it would struggle to get any further. The final result was that four were Commended, four more Highly Commended with Lesley Alsford gaining third place, Chris Gilbert second place and Lesley winning first place too.
