New photos from New Zealand

6 March 2026

Cliff Threadgold is a long-standing member of Potters Bar and District Photographic Society (PBDS).  His attendance did decline rather when his life took him to the other side of the world.  Now based in New Zealand he still enters some Society competitions.  He was happy to give us a presentation as a way of “giving back” to PBDS.

With a title of “18 x 5 from 25”, which confused a few when it was first announced.  What resulted was an intriguing wander around New Zealand’s North Island.  Cliff said that he often does not plan many of his pictures but makes his pictures “in the moment” and has a passion for black and white pictures.  He does not rush in to creating his pictures and said that “finding pictures out of nothing can take a long time”.  By this he meant that he is willing to wait and find the right moment for creating that image.  As well as showing us some excellent pictures Cliff also set himself apart from many presenters by explaining how and why he took the pictures.  He explained that he re-plans a shoot as it goes along looking for how light and shadow interact and always keeps his eyes open to photo opportunities.

A fascinating presentation of nearly 100 images across a range of styles and genres.

Oh, and the title was a reference to us being shown 18 images from five of Cliff’s projects all taken in 2025.  He left us by throwing down a gauntlet to try a similar presentation of our own pictures.  Watch this space!
