Throughout the year the Society holds a series of internal competitions.  There are two main types, a series of five heats where independent judges come to Wyllyotts, assess our images and give scores of up to 20.  Each entrant’s best two scores from each round are aggregated over the five heats and whoever gains the highest total score, wins that year’s challenge.  There are also some stand-alone competitions for given subjects (for example, black and white prints) where the judge “just” finds their top pictures awarding 1^st, 2^nd, and 3^rd places plus perhaps some Highly Commended ratings.  Finally, we host, or take part in, a number of inter-club competitions where our pictures and put-up  against those from five or so other local photographic societies.

It is fair to say that we do not always agree with the scores given but here is a selection of pictures where the photographers did!  A semi-random selection of those awarded 20 points during 2025.  They show the range of images entered by members; travel, wildlife, studio, flowers, portraits and reportage.
