If you go down to the woods today…..
26 June 2025
Last Monday evening was an interesting one. Our speaker was Peter Warne who is not only a trained biologist but also a very good (award winning) photographer and entertaining speaker.

Peter’s subject was Epping Forest and the wildlife that can be found there. His presentation included details on the way that the forest is being restored and managed and included details of another of his interests, Copped Hall (coppedhalltrust). Copped Hall is surrounded by land owned by The Corporation of the City of London (owners of Epping Forest) and Peter gave details of the way that land is being managed, including the role that his photography is playing. Photography is also used to produce educational materials to teach children (& others) about the threats to wildlife in the area and how they can be countered.
The presentation’s photographs ranged from wide-angle “landscape” images to really close-up macro shots and from some of the simplest, near-microscopic, single cell entities to Fallow and Red Deer. Peter also included a recipe (for attracting Woodpeckers).
In short, a wide-ranging presentation supported by excellent photographs and video clips. All given in a light-hearted but authoritative tone.
After a break for more informal meetings over the Summer, we re-commence with an on-line gathering discussing how to get the best photography when visiting zoos. Our next face to face meeting at @Wyllyotts Theatre is on 22nd September.
