A Venice Visit!

17 November 2018

During November 10 members of the club spent several days together in the beautiful city of Venice here are their Travelers Tales ! and hopefully some photographic evidence !!

Cheers

‘A party of ten members recently returned from a very enjoyable trip to
Venice where the City was photographed from all angles!
The weather was mixed with some sunshine, heavy cloud and fog enabling the
members to show their creative skills. In a future
meeting members will be able to view a selection of the photos with an
opportunity to analyse the results. It should be fun!’

Well Geoff was in the advance party of four traveling on the Tuesday, they were fortunate to have lovely foggy conditions, unlucky for us six following on on Thursday ,our early morning flight was held at Gatwick as no one could land at St Marco Polo due to the fog !!! However it was interesting to have some atmosphere late at night and in the early morning. The Hotel was well placed and I am sure everybody is going to produce very different pictures from their trip.

We all met up in the evening for a drink, a meal and a catch up on our days photography. All ten of us were in Murano on Saturday but all at different times. We had very brief glimpses of sun but mainly cloudy conditions, and I thoroughly enjoyed my self snapping away merrily.

Great place to visit made all the more enjoyable by the great company. The advance party of four which arrived two days earlier had some good weather for photography and it was warmer. Lots to photograph but not always successfully. Picked up some bad habits like drinking wine in the early afternoon which I am sure improved all the images taken afterwards. Excellent hotel just a few minutes walk from St Mark’s Square. A very interesting place. Looking forward to seeing all those pictures taken during the trip.

I couldn’t resist the chance to visit Venice with some of our club members. I’ve been several times before, although only around Carnevale time, and its one of my favourite cities.  I was keen to see the ‘aqua alta’  and November is a good time for it but alas it was a case of ‘you should have been here last week’ as we had only a couple of inches in St Mark’s Square rather than the floods of the week before.  Highlights for me were trying to capture the seagulls splashing around in St Mark’s Square,  escaping the crowds to photograph quiet canals in the mist, wandering through Carneggio to the edge of Venice, where there is hardly a soul, sitting with a hot chocolate at a little cafe photographing parts of the gondolas floating by and of course enjoying the company of our group at a local bistro  and in the hotel bar. Here’s to the next time!
